It may have happened to you, too: You are sitting at your desk or at home,
going through the daily mail, and then suddenly there it is: a letter
in a foreign language, and even more problematical, in German. Now, being
a man - or woman - of world you overcome your initial shock and remind
yourself of your "O" - (or even "A") - level results;
after all, you did take German (how long ago was it again?). Didn`t you
get an "A" (or was it only a "B")?
Anyway, as it seems to be rather an important document - the envelope
looks very official and page one contains an underlined date in bold figures
- action is obviously required.
Are you going to do the translating yourself? Of course, you do know your limitations, and after all, the Germans are a bit funny when it comes to their own language. Additionally, languages can create confusion when translated incorrectly: There was the case of a German businessman, an "Unternehmer", being called an "undertaker" in English. Embarrassing, to say the least!
